Explanation of the application procedure
The Master’s degree programme ‘Public History and Cultural Mediation’ always starts in the winter semester. The application deadline is 15 June each year. Admission is linked to an aptitude test.

The requirements for admission to the Master’s degree programme are linked to an aptitude test, which is carried out after the application deadline.
The following must be enclosed with the written application or request:
a curriculum vitae outlining your academic career (or previous studies).
the degree certificate from an university degree programme with a standard period of study of at least six semesters or a comparable scope of study in the humanities, cultural or social sciences with an average grade of at least 2.00. If the degree certificate cannot yet be submitted at the time of application, a current certified proof of the previous study and examination achievements from the degree programme amounting to at least 150 credit points as well as the average grade achieved up to this point in the first degree must be submitted. In this case, the degree certificate itself must be submitted by the end of the first semester at the latest.
if available proof of at least 30 credit points earned as part of the undergraduate degree programme in the field of History or Comparative Cultural Studies/European Ethnology. If this proof is not possible – after a degree programme in the humanities, cultural studies and social sciences without history and comparative cultural studies/ethnology – you must take the corresponding catch-up courses (preparatory course and proseminar in history or introductory lecture and methods seminar in comparative cultural studies) during the first semester.
English language skills at level B2 CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and language skills in another modern European foreign language or Latin or Greek at level A2 CEFR. Usually proof of language skills is provided by a German Abitur certificate (photocopy is sufficient).
All applicants are invited to a personal interview—not as a formal assessment, but as a chance to get to know one another. Professors from the University of Regensburg present the structure and goals of the Master’s programme, while prospective students are encouraged to share and discuss their expectations. This exchange helps applicants determine whether the Master’s in Public History and Cultural Mediation aligns with their academic and professional aspirations.
The main admission criterion is a minimum overall grade of 2.0 [i.e. certificate or extrapolation to 180 credit points if the certificate is not yet available or re-examination if the certificate is finally available.
